Dr. Jordan Cohen served as the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)’s president and chief executive officer from 1994-2006. Prior to his leadership of the AAMC, he served as dean of the medical school at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and as president of the medical staff at University Hospital. Earlier academic appointments included medical schools in Chicago, Illinois; Washington, DC; Boston, Massachusetts; and Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Cohen is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. He serves and has served on numerous boards, including of the ACGME, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the Josiah Macy Foundation, and the American College of Physicians. Internationally, his leadership positions include the China Medical Board and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science & Community Development. Dr. Cohen is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Medical School. He completed his graduate medical education in internal medicine/nephrology in Boston at both Harvard and Tufts.
